Job Description
We are working with a leading Distributor who is looking for an Operations Manager to join their busy Warehouse facility in Dartford.
You will oversee goods-in, despatch, stock control and transport, making sure the right people and resources are in place to meet daily demand while maintaining strong service levels. Working closely with the Branch Manager, you will balance hands-on operational delivery with longer-term improvements and change initiatives. A key part of the role is helping to modernise how the business work and other digital tools across the operation. You will work closely with the Branch Manager, internal sales teams, shift managers, HR and Health & Safety, as well as key customers.

Responsibilities of the Operations Manager
- Leading and coordinating daily activities across warehouse and transport, ensuring targets are met in a structured, sustainable way.
- Planning labour and resources effectively to match operational demand while maintaining high standards of organisation, hygiene and housekeeping.
- Defining, tracking and driving KPIs, analysing data to spot trends and implement corrective actions where needed.
- Championing continuous improvement, identifying and delivering efficiency gains, and promoting modern working practices.
- Acting as the operational lead for new systems and process changes, supporting testing, training and user adoption of Microsoft Dynamics 365.
- Ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies, ISO procedures and equipment safety standards.
- Investigating and recording accidents and near misses and promoting a strong safety culture.
- Leading, coaching and developing your team, setting SMART objectives, carrying out performance reviews and managing attendance and conduct in line with policy.
- Supporting cost control, managing allocated budgets where required and minimising waste while maintaining service levels.
Requirements of the Operations Manager
- Strong background & tangible track record in warehouse and transport operations.
- Health & Safety qualification (IOSH preferred).
- Management or leadership qualification (such as CMI) is desirable.
- Good understanding of HR procedures and people management.
- Experience with ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-led approach to decision making.
- Proven ability to lead teams, communicate effectively and drive performance.
- Experience of continuous improvement (Lean / Six Sigma desirable).
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
